Open Studios 2025

The Yale School of Art is excited to announce that its annual open studios event is taking place in person in 2025, with work by participating artists also made available online. Studios will be open to the public and are located across Yale’s campus in downtown New Haven.

The studios of participating MFA students will be open to the public from 12–6pm on Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6 in the departments of Graphic Design, Painting and Printmaking, Photography, and Sculpture. Pre-registration is encouraged, but day-of registration will also be available at the door. Members of the public are invited to check in at both 1156 Chapel Street and 36 Edgewood Avenue in New Haven. Register to attend by clicking the orange “register” button above.

Events—artist talks, performances, and workshops—are also being hosted across the School of Art as part of Open Studios. The full schedule of community-led programming will be made available through the School of Art’s public events calendar and on the 2025 Open Studios website.

Online representation of work by participating MFA students will also be made available as part of a continued effort to expand the means through which students’ work and practice is accessible to the public as part of the annual open studios event. The 2025 Open Studios website will launch ahead of the start of Open Studios weekend in late March 2025.

Visual Intro into the Black Gaze: Portraiture, Love, and Desire with Faith Couch

This talk will offer a brief exploration of the history of Black representation in the 21st century while examining the work of contemporary Black photographers and image-makers. Through this lens, Faith Couch, Photography MFA ’26, will discuss how her practice engages with a lineage of image-making—grappling with both the affirming and contested depictions of Black life—and how her work seeks to reclaim, reimagine, and deepen narratives of love, care, and intimacy.

For Possible Occurrence 3.1, duo performers Camille Chang and Soleil Piverger will perform Sports Piece. They will perform sports acts and gestures on a vertical path, emphasizing the level of their athleticism.

Graphic Design Atrium Activation

Join MFA students in Graphic Design for a showcase of work including performances, an artist discussion pit (for students, faculty and visitors to have meaningful discussions), karaoke with projections of student’s motion work, a retrospective gallery of posters designed for various SoA events during this academic year, as well as different stations and classrooms showcasing printed work, books and other publications, websites, typographic, audiovisual and sculptural work. Collaborative Community Canvas: An Open (Studios) Invitation, Year 4

Join us in the courtyard between 1156 Chapel Street and 353 Crown Street to contribute to a third year of the collaborative community canvas—open for anyone to draw on—as part of 2025 Open Studios. Draw on the canvas and take home selections from previous years'project for free, in a gesture of “leave a drawing, take a drawing.“

Hosted by the School of Art’s Assistant Director of Communications, Lindsey Mancini, as an extension of her art mapping project ArtAround. Free pens, stickers, and maps of public art in New Haven will also be available!

Origins is a pop-up art show featuring several Connecticut artists and will be on view at 63 Audubon Street during April 4-6 (12-6 pm) and April 11-13 (12-4 pm).
