Melinda Ring, Performance ArtistMs. Ring received a B.A. in dance from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1982 and an M.F.A. from Bennington College in 2001. She founded Special Projects in 2004 to support the production of her choreographic, performance and installation work. Ms. Ring is a 2016 Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grants to Artist awardee, a 2017 Guggenheim Fellow and a 2019 NYFA Fellow. Her recent works have also been commissioned and supported by The Kitchen, The Box Los Angeles, The Chocolate Factory, Yaddo, Headlands Center for the Arts, Whitman College, Annenberg Foundation (Metabolic Studio), Danspace Project, Movement Research, Bennington College and Gibney Dance Center. Contact Quarterly devoted Chapbook 6 to her 2014 work, Forget Snow. Ms. Ring was the curator for Danspace Project’s spring 2011 Platform, Susan Rethorst: Retro(intro)spective, and its fall 2012 Judson Now Platform program, Dance by Default. As a performer she has worked for artist Paul McCarthy on numerous projects, beginning in 1997 with Santa Chocolate Shop. Last October she and Yanira Castro performed, their interpretation of Simone Forti’s dance construction See Saw at MOMA, in the show Judson Dance Theater: The Work Is Never Done. She was appointed critic in sculpture at Yale in 2014.
