Art 960a/b, Writing for Artists
This seminar is intended to help graduate students refine their writing skills and develop a greater understanding of how the use of language relates to their studio practice and their development as professional artists. In weekly workshops, students create, distribute, read aloud, and discuss their own writing in a series of exercises strategically designed to take them as far as possible in as compressed a time frame as possible. Among the forms to be addressed are artist’s statements, descriptive writing, exhibition reviews, fiction, scripts and dialogues, lists, and sense-memory-based autobiographical sketches. Published writings by established artists are also read and discussed in parallel with each week’s assignment. Limited enrollment. Open to all MFA students. Meets weekly for 3 credits.Editor details
