Join us at the Yale School of Art! We are currently seeking a motivated metals-focused shop co-manager to collaboratively re-envision our Fabrication Shop with our newly hired wood-focused co-manager.
The Fabrication Shop Manager position is an opportunity to bring a fresh perspective to the shop and make it a more forward-looking and successful space for students, creating direct and lasting change at the Yale School of Art.
Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Fabrication Shop Manager is responsible for the operations and safety protocols of the metals equipment at the 36 Edgewood Fabrication Shop at the School of Art. The Fabrication Shop Manager will have a focus on the metals area, and co-manage the entire shop areas alongside another Fabrication Shop Manager with expertise in the wood area, to provide equipment/shop training to students, oversee the daily operation of the fabrication shops, maintain and repair equipment, and provide support to students with specific shop and fabrication needs across all four departments at the School of Art. Students work on a variety of art projects across media in the Fabrication Shop, sometimes for installation in critique and gallery spaces throughout the School. Two shop managers co-manage Shop and Student Monitors. The Fabrication Shop Manager orders and maintains materials, supplies, tools, and equipment. They will regularly interface with Facilities, Yale’s Offices of Environmental Health and Safety and Risk Management (EHS), as well as the Yale Fire Marshal on compliance and in relation to special projects and activities. The goal of the Edgewood Fabrication Shop is to promote and maintain a safe and healthy working environment within an actively inclusive pedagogy–a shared space in which all students feel welcomed to explore various fabrication mediums. The Shop Manager may lead workshops about fabrication techniques and applications when necessary.
